Subject: Re: [KENYABIRDSNET] Orange-winged Pytilia on Mount Kenya [3 Attachments]

Dear All.  Orange-winged Pytilia is certainly a bird of interest.  To give some idea of the few records that we have:

"Formerly locally common in coastal lowlands, Tsavo East NP and the central Kenya highlands, but now scarce and extremely localised with all populations declining due to extensive land use changes.

Post-1960 records include reports from the edge of Sokoke Forest January 1968, Shimba Hills January-February 1990 and August 1997, northeast Elgon and the Kongelai escarpment November 1989, April 1994, April and October-December 1997, Nairobi suburbs in November 1996 and October 2002, Timau-Lewa Downs June-August 2006, Ol Doinyo Sabuk NP January 2007 and near Thika April 2012 and January 2013.

These latest photos from the Nanyuki-Timau area would tie in with the June-August 2006 records above.

Clearly a few pockets remaining.

Best wishes
