Subject: More records and water lily mimic
Greetings birders
First, may I add some birds I missed to our list for Paradise Lost:
- Northern migrants included Isabelline (Red-tailed) Shrike
- Local ‘wanderers' included Namaqua Dove and Beautiful Sunbird from the drylands, and Golden-winged Sunbird from the highlands.
Second, let me introduce a botanical mimic: in Lily lake in Karura Forest, there are two plants with similar leaves: the Blue Water Lily (Nymphaea nouchali ) and Nyphoides brevipedicellata with small white flowers (photo below by Paul Wachira). Thanks to those who pointed it out, those who took photos and Quentin Luke who identified it!
Wishing you good birding, Fleur
