Subject: Mountain Buzzard near Kiambu

Dear all,

Yesterday while at Ibonia Estate (a coffee farm bordering Paradise Lost) with Edson Mlamba, a Mountain Buzzard soared over the farm heading northwards. It was quite a surprise as the area has no proper forest. The altitude is about 1670m, which also seems low for the species. Could this individual have wondered all the way from the Gatamaiyu/Kereita forests? Has anyone ever seen them in Karura Forest before? This is the first record of the species for the pentad (which also includes the northern section of Karura).

Best regards,
Sidney Shema
