Great find Nigel. Certainly a rare bird in Nairobi, especially in the western suburbs. In addition to sites noted by Fleur and others, also known from the Arboretum and Safari Park Hotel, though again only sporadically. Probably no more than a dozen Nairobi records, most of these more than 20 years ago.

Good birding,

James

Dear Nigel, Don and all

Another great record for Nairobi birding despite the growing urbanization!

Nature Kenya’s Wednesday Morning Bird walk recorded Green-capped Eremomela several times in the past – but that was more than a decade ago, perhaps two decades, and always in northwestern Nairobi – the International School of Kenya and Ridgeways Estate near the Windsor Golf Hotel.

Good birding to all, Fleur

Dear Nigel, This is indeed a fantastic record of the little known
endemic race kikuyuensis, which Van Someren collected from Nairobi
(believed the western suburbs) in November 1916, but did not describe
it until 1931. It is very localized in the Thika, Embu and Meru
districts, but has not been recorded from Nairobi for a very very
long time, in fact I doubt there are any dated records. Well worth
writing up for Scopus.

Great news
Don
