Dear Bird Watchers,
George Ndung'u has been observing and monitoring Grey Crowned Cranes in Lake Ol' Bolossat basin, Nyandarua County, Kenya at least for the last one year through a support from NABU.
He's therefore quite familiar with resident pairs - where they roost, feed, rest, nest etc. He recently came across a tagged male who'd not wait for him to get any closer to read the tag. He further saw a pait with both of them bearing tags.
This mail is therefore to ask if anyone out there has been tagging Cranes, within Kenya or outside. We are planning to find a telescope and try and read it. If we manage this, it might give us knowledge on their movements, habitat use etc. Sometimes, the number of Cranes in the basin swells up to several hundreds and would hence be nice to know where they come from.
Thanking you all in advance,
Wams.
