Subject: Re: Status of Denham's bustard in Kenya and Tanzania

Hello my birding colleagues

I have an MSc student who is keen to study the Near-Threatened Dehman's bustard in Kenya focusing on current population within its Kenya's strongholds, habitat preferences as well as the threats it is facing. The species fact sheet (http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/speciesfactsheet.php?id=2761) only mentions that "The Rift Valley in Kenya was formerly regarded as its stronghold, but there are now probably fewer than 300 in all of Kenya".

Any idea on where this species has been spotted recently (in significant numbers)? This is important before he settles on a specific site or geographical area as well feasibility of this study.

Thanks.
