Dear Chege,

Thank you for letting us know about your sightings!

I have been wondering for some time now: is there anyone making use of data spread via the Kenyabirdsnet emails by compiling the records somewhere?

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to bird conservation if you could enter your sightings on the Kenya Bird Map or even the ebird data base?
There are some young Kenyans who are running the KBM, adapted to Kenya's specifics by Colin Jackson, and deserve all our support to make this a success! What's more, a free app., the BirdLasser, enables us to contribute to bird conservation in Kenya in a very uncomplicated manner!

Sorry for bringing this up as I am still a novice in the world of bird watchers! I just feel the KBM deserves much more support from seasoned birders like you, Chege!

Best regards.

Hi

Here are a few records that might be of interest.

9th March 2016: in Thika along the Mang’u Road had a two White-backed Night Herons. Turned out to be my first for Kenya

24th March: same but a single individual at same place.

20th Feb: had 1 Violet-tipped Courser and a day later 4 individuals in Rukinga Ranch. This also turned out to be my first for Kenya

3rd to 5th  Dec: Friedmann’s Larks in Rukinga Ranch were calling but never heard them again thereafter.

On 3rd: Nov had a single Quail-Plover in Rukinga Ranch...turned out to be a lifer again and later seen once at night some days later (can’t find the date though)

Afew other birds i have seen along the Mang’u Road and along the River Kariminu includes Trumpeter’s Hornbills, African Finfoot, Giant, Kingfisher, Hinde’s Babbler (common everyday bird) , Purple-crested Turaco, Grey-olive Greenbul and a single week-long record of Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo

Cheers and best wishes

chege
