Subject: The 'hou' call of the African palm civet

 
One of the more unusual and difficult loud calls to identify at night in the forests of Africa is the 'hou' call of the African ppalm civet (= two-spotted palm civet).  Field scientists and others who are unfamiliar with this call will typically think that the caller is an owl.
