Subject: Re: [KENYABIRDSNET] Madagascar Pond Heron NO RECENT RECORDS

Dear All,

Has anyone been successful meanwhile in sighting a Madagascar Pond Heron?
Following your email, Neil, I checked the ponds at Nguuni Nature Santuary (North of Mombasa) & was lucky enough to flush one exactly were I was hoping to find it should it be around.

Best regards

these birds arrive in May. We have multiple records of multiple birds from the lower reaches of the Ruvu floodplain where sometimes at least 50 and probably many more birds have been seen in a single day.

they have been easily seen at the numerous rice schemes and roadside ponds during the past few years but this year.

NONE

not a single record.

no systematic search but NO casual observations.

by now many of them will have moved inland so PLEASE check out any sites where you have seen this bird in recent years and let me know if they are around.

Important that someone takes a close look along the Kilombero, if you have the opportunity.

thanks

Neil
