On the 16th April I photographed this cuckoo at the Hippo Pool in the Mara Triangle. The small size and beak were the first most noticeable features. The photo was talen across the river, so doesn't zoo in that well, but the bold belly chest and belly barring would add to pointing to a Lesser Cuckoo. Thanks to Brian for pointing out that the worn plumage would indicate a bird that has recently arrived (i.e. Madagascar Lesser) rather than a clean and neat departing bird that would be Asian Lesser (also not expected this far inland).
I suspect it could have been eating these caterpillars which had decimated the surrounding Crotons.
A fun find whichever way I look at it!
Kind regards
