Hello birders
A brief addition to Brian Finch and Nigel Hunter’s park visit on Sunday
We were in the park from 12pm onwards until 7 pm with a friend from Germany
The time was mostly spent in the Mbagathi Athi basin area.
Highlights included
A pair of Temmink’s coursers with two very small chicks on the top road in the Athi basin
Two yellow throated sandgrouse at the basin Dam (the first that we have seen in the park for a couple of years)
Four Violet wood hoopoes on the Acacia scrub circuit
Squacco heron at Nagolomon Dam
Palearctics included
Two willow warblers
Two adult and two juvenile isabelline shrikes
One isabelline wheater
One male pied wheater
One rather scruffy looking Eurasian roller
Mammals in addition to the large numbers of wildebeest and thompson’s gazelle included a Lavia frons at the Hippo pools and a silver-backed jackal on the outer circuit
Best to all
Richard
