There is usually a pair of Bat Hawks (and Ayres' Hawk Eagle) in what used to be Onkolde forest. Now they are easier to see as the Oxystigma msoo (soon to be classified Endangered) dominated  canopy is dead because the TARDA embankment has blocked groundwater recharge. Not good for the Red Colobus either.

Hi Johnathan,

What a sighting, it's a lovely bird! I do recall that I used to see some Bat Hawks near Mnjila (KWS outpost), Idsowe (YWCA) and lastly around Kipini (Dispensary and KWS/ Fisheries outpost compounds), respectively. That was longtime - 1992/93, when, I was serving there in Rana River.

Missing happy and most memorable birding moments from the said area.
