Intern Vacancy - Supporting the Science and Information Management team and species conservation-related programmes in the BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat

 

The BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat based in Nairobi, Kenya, is looking for an intern. S/he will support the work of the secretariat’s Science and Information Management Team, as well as the Preventing Extinctions and Migratory Birds and Flyways Programmes of the BirdLife Africa Partnership.

 

The general duties include but are not limited to:

·         Providing support in stimulating and coordinating scientific research and publication from BirdLife’s conservation projects, in particular monitoring and documenting conservation impacts of selected major projects

·         Supporting the Africa secretariat in addressing science and information management needs expressed in 2014

·         Supporting implementation of vulture conservation activities in the BirdLife Africa Partnership

·         Providing support to BirdLife Africa partners and Species Guardians in implementing action to conserve selected priority critically endangered bird species

·         Supporting the line manager in coordinating participatory development and implementation of the Africa Flyways and Migratory Birds Programme Regional Plan

·         Using the internship to significantly improve own capacity in conservation science, species conservation, project management, fundraising and other relevant skills

 

The required qualifications and skills are:

·         A degree, preferably advanced, in natural resource/wildlife management, conservation biology or any related discipline.

·         Good knowledge and interest in ornithology, ecology and applied biology

·         Good writing, presentation and analytical skills

·         Demonstrable interest and commitment to learn and grow professionally in the field of bird conservation science

 

Location: The position will be based at the BirdLife Regional Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya. Preference is therefore for residents of Kenya.

Duration: 3 months with possibility of extension

Benefits: A stipend of KShs 30,000 per month which is subject to taxation as per Kenyan law.
