Hello Birders
Below are the most interesting birds seen a brief afternoon visit to Nairobi NP on Sunday November 17th. We did not arrive until about 12.30 pm and left at 6 pm. Generally it was poor for passerine migrants. Although we had a sprosser
on the ILRI compound prior to leaving ( our first for many years). The rains had not yet arrived and it was generally still unusually dry for mid-November.
Common Squacco Heron 1 Hyaena dam
Spurwing goose 1 Athi basin dam
Pallid Harrier 1 Male near Athi Dam
Steppe buzzard 1 Langata forest
Steppe Eagle -3 Athi basin
Shelley’s francolin-3
Painted snipe -1 female on the edge of Nagolomon at dusk. Our first in the park (perhaps there is a small population at the moment?).
Yellow wagtail - 1 flava type near Hyaena dam
Blackcap -2 males and 2 females-drinking at KWS mess.
Mammals included:
Two mating lions near Athi Dam and a rather scared lone young male below leopard cliffs.
Five white Rhinos (but no black).
Two mountain reedbuck at the usual site on the edge of the Sosian gorge
One steinkbok on the outer circuit.
Good birding to all.
