Subject: Fwd: [KENYABIRDSNET] WHERE OUR SHRIKES HAVE GONE

Thanks for bringing this situation out in the open Brian. These are really sickening photos, I had no idea birds were netted on this scale, what a tragedy. Very upsetting.

It's of interest, though, that last autumn at Ngulia there were plenty of Red-backed and Red-tailed Shrikes; the four recoveries we've had (2 of each species) have been well to the east of Egypt. Could it be that the very widespread and heavy rains have made much more habitat suitable for migrants throughout Kenya? A friend who flew in to NBO from Dubai the other day said there was masses of water all over the "NFD".

I'll sign the petition now.

Cheers,

Graeme

Dear All,

On reading about the extreme lack of shrikes in NNP at present, I was
sent in a very real explanation.

They flew into Egypt and never left, see attached images,

Best for now
Brian
