Subject: Sabaki count
We did the monthly waterbird count at Sabaki today - and a very
different count it was! The water level in the river is extremely
high and even at fullest low tide there was only a narrow strip of
mud flats exposed along the side - otherwise there were huge
standing waves of basically mud flowing downstream - carrying more
of Ukambani's shambas into the Indian Ocean...
The one thing to report bird-wise was 715 Madagascar Pratincoles -
which is one of the higher counts we've had in recent years.
Very few migrants around this year - though we caught and ringed two
Euro Golden Orioles together from the same net two days ago.
Best,
Colin
