Dear All,
Whilst on a photoshoot at the Porini Camps within the Selenkay Conservancy in Amboseli, we stopped at one of the tree houses to take a break and see what came to life at the water holes. Lots of doves and sandgrouse came
to the water hole for a dip and a sip of the chocolatey watery goodness.
All was calm till one African Mourning Dove dove too far from the bank and seemed to be struggling to get out of the water. It seemed at first that it had gotten its feathers too wet to get out.
Soon, however, it was
evident that the dove was grounded when we saw several heads swimming closer to it. It was the Dove-minators coming in for a feast.
About 3 terrapins were closing in to the dove which had been held down by one terrapin dragging it deeper into the water hole. The dove tried to pull itself out in vain.
The terrapins soon had clasped onto the struggling Dove which eventually lost the battle.
I wonder if the Doveminators "WILL BE BACK"?
I have uploaded a few pictures which can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151374342210266.520711.303992015265&type=1
All in all, Selenkay Conservancy is a great place to be to be birding. The bird list included: Sulphur Breasted Bush Shrikes, Red chested cuckoos, long crested eagle pair with a young one under their wing, blue naped
mousebirds, namaqua doves, grey headed bush shrikes, brown snake eagles, Paradise Whyda, Straw Tailed Whyda and lots more.
Till next time,
