Subject: NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK 7TH AUGUST 2012

On 7th August Nigel Hunter and myself went into Nairobi National Park. We examined Ivory Burning Site, Hyena Dam, Nagalomon Dam, Kingfisher, Athi Dam and Cheetah Gate. It seemed a quiet day, but on tallying up what we had recorded we were surprised that it had exceeded 160 species.

More interesting species were;

Purple Heron Hyena Dam

Saddle-billed Stork Hyena Dam run-off

Common Buttonquail pair in Athi Basin

African Water Rail behind Hyena Dam, Hyena Dam and the run-off

Spur-winged Plover four Athi Dam

Common Sandpiper three Athi one Eland Hollow Dams

Wood Sandpiper just one Hyena Dam

Green Sandpiper one Nagalomon Dam

Little Stint four Athi Dam

Meyer’s Parrot noisy along Mokoyeti River near bridge

Dusky Nightjar dead male Cheetah Gate road

d‘Arnaud’s Barbets pair Cheetah Gate

Barn Swallow two Eland Hollow

Speckle-fronted Weaver five Cheetah Gate

Orange-breasted Waxbill twenty Hyena Dam run-off

Grey-headed Silverbill five Cheetah Gate
