Dear Fleur,

That is a very amazing bird to see.  When Doris told me (it was her and Kevin saw it) I was very doubtful as I knew there were very few Kenya records and no coastal ones at all.  Well wonders never cease in the bird world and now we have  this great new coastal record.  Birds never cease to amaze us.  May go and see if it is still hanging about.  It was probably straying from its northern migration.

Happy birding.
Marlene

Dear Doris and all

It’s a Eurasian Wryneck. That black line through the eye clinches it.

A fantastic find! And good photos to prove it. According to Birds of Kenya and Northern Tanzania, there were no records from the Coast. So it’s an important record. Congratulations to the Mombasa birders!

With best wishes from Fleur

Dear All,

May I please get help with this bird? Spotted it on April 20th at the edge of a burnt area at Nguuni Nature Sanctuary (Kiembeni/Mombasa North)!
Sadly at 18:00hrs there was not enough sunlight left for better photos....
Two birders identified the bird as an Eurasian Wryneck.. Does anybody else agree or what do you think it is??

Thank & best regards
