Subject: RUSINGA ISLAND BIRDING

Hello birders.

It was a  fantastic weekend for me  at Rusinga island coz birding there was quite lovely and don't need to cover long distant to see birds and in fact a veranda birding is guaranteed for those who want to relax for the birds-feeder are next to all rooms doors. The area is 3779ft above sea level and less than 100 Km south of the Equator.

Birds within the compound and about 10 Km from lodge to Mbita causeway: Double-toothed Barbet,Black -winged Red bishop,Yellow fronted Canary,Red-faced crombec,Klaas's cuckoo,African mourning Dove,Blue-spotted wood-dove,Pale flycatcher,Black-headed Gonolek they were about 10 pairs from different points,Yellow throated greenbul,Black and White mannikins,Blue-napped Mousebird,Tree Pipit,Eastern Grey Plantain-eater, Common Ringed Plover,Green- winged pytilia,Common Quail,White-brown Robin-chat,Ruppell's long tailed Starling, African open-billed Stork,Beautiful Sunbird, Red-chested Sunbird, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Barn Swallow, Black-crowned Tchagra, Water Thick-knee, African Thrush, Buff-bellied Warbler, Grey-capped warbler, Willow Warbler, Six species of Weavers was all but a spices that is Baglafech't, black-headed,Northern brown-throated, Slender-billed,  Spectacled and Golden backed Weavers, Pin tailed Whydah and Nubian Woodpecker. I did not put all the birds in this list for the total number of birds  spotted was 72 in three hours(3hrs).

On my way back from Kisumu  used Narok road where the Abdim's Storks and Black Storks were busy fueling up for the long journey back North, between Bomet and Narok Wheat fields following tractors which were preparing the land.
