there is a request here for fresh (ish) feathers from Greater Flamingos for a genetic study of this wide ranging species.
is there anyone on these groups that could collect feathers for Julia ? a fresh(ish) dead bird would be preferred, far too many Lesser Flamingo feathers along our lake shores.
please contact Julia directly.
thanks
Neil

Subject: sampling greater flamingo
Hi Neil,
I am recontacting about sampling of Greater flamingo feathers in Tanzania.
I am sorry that your project of catching flamingos at Natron's lake couldn't be carried out.
Anyway, I am still interested to get some samples from East Africa to asess levels of genetic diversity and connection between greater flamingo populations at the scale of their whole distribution range. Unfortunatly, I could'nt get some samples from this area yet.
As it is not possible to catch living birds, do you think there would be a way to get feathers from dead individuals or fallen feathers sampled on the ground?
If you know people that are doing field trip near flamingos foraging or breeding areas, could you please pass on my request?
I attached the sampling protocol and can provide needed material.
Many thanks for any help you could provide,
Kind regards,
Julia Geraci, PhD student
