Subject: Strange flycatcher Nairobi NP
Dear All,
Several times I have reported strange rufous-tailed Spotted
Flycatchers, it only seems to be the Nairobi region that gets these
odd-looking birds. On 22nd January I was in Nairobi National Park with
Mike Davidson and Fleur. Near Hyena Dam, a strange looking Muscicapa
was flycatching around a small acacia.
It had pale or translucent outertail feathers, a single pale buffy
wing-bar, dark smudging on breast, especially forming dark broad and
smudgy lines along side of flanks, and heavily lined crown rather than
distinct streaks.
I believe in spite of not looking like one, it was a Spotted
Flycatcher rather than a more desirable Siberian vagrant, but
surely
strange Spotted Flycatchers must have been seen away from Nairobi at
some time, although I have never seen a report. I wonder where they
come from. If anyone out there has seen anything similar, details
would be appreciated.

Best to all
