Subject: misc records
For the record and so that they're 'out there', I've received
reports of interesting bird sightings from Miles Coverdale (based in
Nanyuki):
Egyptian Vulture - one immature roosted overnight 15-16/7/09 at
Mtuamaiyu Farm, Burgutet [QSD 63A] - all records of Egyptian
Vultures are important to have reported these days as the species is
in serious decline and we need to monitor the populations as much as
possible to have a solid argument to assist in banning poisons such
as Furadan which have largely caused the decline.
Imperial Eagle - one with several A. nipalensis was much
larger and had a golden nape 20/10/10 West of Isiolo.
Corn Crakes - singles (possibly the same bird) seen several times
near Nanyuki from 14/04/10 to 19/04/10
Pennant-winged Nightjar - seen on 30/09/10 and 01/10/10 on a marshy
saline stream near Suiyan Lodge - an unusually eastern record.
White-tailed Tropic Bird - single seen off shore Watamu by Robert
Coverdale, 3/2/10.
