Hi Clive,

I am not a nightjar's expert but looks to me like a male Plain
Nightjar (brown variant);it certainly lacks the white throat marking
typical of most nightjars (inclusive of the Nubian) with a buff broken
moustache (may be due to ruffled feathers) that matches the breast and
wing spots (I wish you had a ringer's grip photo to show the dorsal
part of the wing) as the pale parts of the species (when perched). It
is a male bird because of the white outer tail edges and white spots
in the primaries.
