I was staying betwen lakes Magadi and Natron for the Rhino Charge two weeks ago and saw large numbers of white-throated bee eaters in the area.

Happy to give coordinates to anyone interested in visiting the area.

Best,

Wendy

Good morning all

Just to say I was down at Olorgesaile over the weekend and saw quite large numbers of the White throated around.  We were on both sides of the road from Oltepesi, higher numbers were to the north of the road where I saw them frequently.

Kind regards

Tracy

Thanks Neil,

Just three Serengeti June records over the past ten years; that makes this a good record then?

Zimmerman et al. mentions the Magadi population but doesn't mention at what time of year they breed, only that the species typically occurs in Kenya between September and April.

Cheers

Adam

As you'll see from these rather few records there are occasional reports of this bird at this time of the year from the Serengeti ecosystem to the south of you.

Are you aware of the breeding population in the Natron / Magadi Rift ?

It could be birds from this population wandering to you rather than out of season birds from the Sahel . The western Serengeti - Mara being far wetter than the rift at this time of the year.

Tony, another one for your people to be aware of.

Hi all,

Just a quick line to report 8 (possibly 9) White-throated Bee-eaters roosted at Naibor Camp, Masai Mara, last night (8th June). All loudly catching insects above the office! Sadly, poor light prevented decent images but they were thoroughly enjoyed by Vicki and I.

I gather from Zimmerman et al., that this is an odd time of year to see the species in the south of the country as they should by now have returned north to breed?

Regards,

Adam
