Subject: Interesting breeding records from Nyahururu, Kenya.

Dear all:

I refer to an observation on 11th March, 2010, at the District Forest Officers' (DFO's) compound, South Marmarnet Forest (Uaso Narok Forest Block), Nyahururu.

I observed two interesting bird species with breeding records. They were: 1) Sharpe's Starling Cinnyrinclus sharpii and  2) Grey Cuckoo-Shrike Coracina caesia.
A pair of the first species,  were feeding young-ones in a tree-hole nesting cavity. The nest was on an African Olive tree Olea africana, approximately 20-metres above the ground.

The Grey Cuckoo-Shrike, were collecting and gathering nesting materials (small twigs). The nest was on an identified tree species, approximately, 15-metres above the ground.

On a light note, the days' Standard Newspaper, carried an article on the birds of Kakamega Forest. Unfortunately, it contained errors. Who is to blame for the same? The source of information and/or the journalist?

Thanks and happy birding always,
JKN.
