Just a quick note re birds at Lake Nakuru Nat park on 20th /21st Feb this last few days

Huge numbers 5000+ of White Storks feeding up for 2-3 days before pre-migration flights north. Perhaps only 100+ Woolly Necked storks.
Very few Flamingoes at all, less than 50,000.  No White Pelicans at all.
1 Booted Eagle.
100+European Bee Eaters moving north.

just a quick note re Abdim's Stork.

there are around 30,000 at Ndutu at the moment (last weekend) and their usual wintering grounds (in significant numbers) are, as we know from sat tagged studies and frequent visits, Shinyanga Region to the south of Lake Victoria. For many their return migration takes them east of the Crater Highlands north through the Rift Valley.

From 13 Jan to 3 February I led a Sunbird tour to Kenya in the company of Edwin Selempo.   Here is a summary of some of our more interesting sightings (both negative and positive):

No sign of any White Pelicans at Lake Nakuru, and bird numbers generally very low there.

One African Darter resident at Hunter’s Lodge.

c.500 Abdim’s Storks at Lake Jipe (none seen anywhere else).

One 1st-year Egyptian Vulture on the Magadi Road (c.20 km before the lake)
