Hello Fleur ,

Did you get my mail with some general
information regarding the Crake ? Anyway today 28th Oct.
I managed to go to Manguo Ponds with other regular birders to
look for the Crake. After scanning the area for some time we got lucky
to spot it and I decided to take some few pictorial evidence along. I must admit that
I still need more practice with my camera to get the best shots.Nonetheless I hope the above photos wont be a disppointment.
N:B
I`ve also included a photo of the Northern Shoveller that we saw at the pond too.
Thank you

Regards.

Hello Peter

Thank you so much for letting me know about this exciting sighting!

Spotted Crake is a very rare sighting in Kenya, and needs supporting information for the record to be accepted. Please write up a small note describing how well you saw it (light conditions, binoculars, etc.), what other birds were nearby, what convinced you, etc.

The snipe is most likely to be a Common Snipe, as the African Snipe is usually only found at higher altitudes. If you are certain of the ID, then please write up a small note as for the crake.

Keep up the good birding, Fleur

Hello Fleur.
I hope you had a nice weekend.
I went to Manguo Ponds on Saturday 24th Oct. with Wouter
to do some birdwatching. We did expect the water level to be higher with the
short rains that we`ve been experiencing but alas the situation is not getting better yet.Consequently they were few birds in the shallow ponds .Nonetheless we saw a lifer and I thought you might be interested to know.We saw a Spotted Crake  in the sedge adjacent to the main pond !  It was Wouter who spotted the bird while we were in pursuit of a Snipe which we had just flashed out while moving across the sedges. The Snipe turned out to be the African Snipe.
Thank you for having the time to read this .
Nice birding !
