Subject: Re: [tanzaniabirds] Tanzania: Common Sandpiper June data

Hi Brian, Graeme, Bernd, Don, Simon, Neil and others,

Thanks for this insight into Common Sandpiper movements. Looking slightly further afield in East Africa, I recently returned from a 8-day trip to Rwanda and on 26 July 2009 we had a single Common Sandpiper at City Park, on a waterbody adjacent to the Golf Course in Kigali  (S1.93986 E30.09725).

all the best

Callan

Brian and all.

this is our raw data for Common Sandpipers in June. quite widespread. there are surely odd birds to be found in Kenya.

ab category 2 = 11-100 birds, i.e. > 10.

don't pay too much attention to all those January records. almost certainly this bias is due to the extra effort during waterbird counts and the extra effort
simply because it's the new year with renewed vigour !!

I can remove some of the bias using reporting rate but this takes time.
