Brown Babblers
Hello All,
Just back from a walking safari down the Ewaso Nyiro River. We were north of Crocodile jaws (the bridge that crosses the ewaso just south of sabuk and ol Malo Lodge.
While walking we encountered a flock of Brown Babblers at a camp we use about 8.2 km north of crocodile jaws. The UTMs are below:
N 0 39.530’
E 36 54.979’
(about 1300 meters)
I have seeen this species in Laikipia at Sosian Ranch and on the Maralal / Rumaruti Rd but never this far east. Also in this area we had many Verreaux’s Eagles – the most ive ever seen (to what extent I was seeing the same pair is unknown but over the course of five days walking we averaged 6 pair sightings a day.
Below Around 1400 meters on the Ewaso I noticed that we begin to get into northern brownbuls, white-headed Buffalo Weavers, Yellow-billed hornbills and viloet backed sunbirds. Newtonia trees become more common below this altitude as well and with them many more pearl spotted owlets. Interesting.
Cheers, James
