Hi Neil - I tried to send this in early Dec but just noticed it bounced. Will try again now.

HI Neil,

Yes, we've been working on an eradication programme with Tony Archer for about 10 years on the coast. However we've hit major beaurocratic hassles and red tape the past 3 years regarding importing the poison, Starlicide, from the US. After 9/11 the US insists that any poison being exported must have a letter of authorisation from the appropriate gov office of the country of destination. Tony had been importing just 2kg with the blessing of KWS for 15 years but when he went to the Pest Control Board, they got very upset that he hadn't got clearance with them and basically threw every dot and dash of the book at the project which we are still trying to untangle ourselves from.

As a result crow numbers have hugely increased (we'd got down to 5-6 birds in Watamu as a regular count and 20-30 in Malindi. Malindi numbers are well over 1,000 now...). I'll attach a copy of a report for your interest. We're still monitoring numbers despite not being able to do anything about poisoning them.

Colin
