Subject: Lukenya Birds

Dear All,

I Just finished a short trip to Amboseli and Lukenya. Amboseli was by no means a birding trip but i was able to pick up 15-20 Caspian Plovers in the short grasslands northwest of Ol Tukai very close to the dry lake bed. I also had a small flock of White-Headed Mousebirds at the main gate and there were four White-fronted Bee-eaters in Namanga town.

At Lukenya I was able to do much more birding but I was attending a camp and was limited a bit in regards to the hours I could bird. While there I saw two Bush Pipits very close to Lukenya Getaway. I watched them for around 20 minutes getting great looks. Highlights and migrants also recorded included Southern Grosbeak Canaries, Long-billed Pipits, numerous Common Whitethroats, two Irania, many Common Rock-thrushes, a Booted Eagle, Isabelline, Pied and Northern Wheatears, a Spotted Flycatcher, singles of Levailants and Great-spotted Cuckoo, a few Common Kestrels,  and singles of Montagus Harrier and Steppe Eagle.

Good Birding,

Stratton Hatfield
