Hi birders!

Shailesh is correct: the Golden-winged Sunbird is a cold season visitor to the Nairobi area but, in my opinion, not as common nowadays as it was a few years ago. Incidentally, Bill Harvey (1997) only gives it as Rare in the National Park; he calls it Occasional in the Arboretum area.

A male I ringed outside Kariobangi sewage works on 10 May 1972 was recovered, (probably in August) the same year on the South Kinangop (JEANHS Nat Mus 144) and an adult female ringed by Frank Gill and Larry Wolfe on 22 March 1970 16 km SW of the South Kinangop was recovered in Mitaboni Location, Machakos District on 18 April 1975 (JEANHS Nat Mus 163).

Best wishes,
