Subject: A Few Sightings
Dear All,
Just completed another thoroughly enjoyable trip to
Kenya, despite all the troubles. A few records of more unusual birds to submit
-
Common Redshank - 7-9 January 2008 on western shore
of Lake Ololeiden (spelling? the small one anyway), Naivasha - single
bird
Lesser Crested Tern - 9 January on eastern shore of
Lake Elementaita, single bird resting on shore and flying up and down the lake
edge
Great Snipe - 14 January, on Rift Valley floor
below escarpment some 25 km south of Corner Baridi, Ngong Hills, single bird
flushed from marshy patch in otherwise parched bush
Many thanks too to Kenyabirdsnet and Chege for the
alert on the Common Cranes!
And a very late record from a previous
visit-
Ferruginous Duck - 20 November 2005, single
male, also on Lake Ololeiden, Naivasha (plus at least 50 Maccao
Duck)
Best of luck to one and all,
Jeffrey James
