Subject: Colour-ringed Crab-plovers

Just to let people know to look out for them - we have just started colour-ringing Crab- plovers here at Mida Creek, Watamu. Birds are being ringed above the tarsus with a large green or blue colour ring with four large white digits or letters e.g "AENV". Please keep an eye open for them - even on Mida Creek - and let us know the time and place the bird(s) was / were seen.

Otherwise, news from Ngulia in Tsavo West NP this season is over 14,000 migrants ringed so far with three controls - all Marsh Warblers, from Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovenia. Species of interest include a Corncrake, good numbers of Basra Reed Warblers and a Steel-blue Whydah which is some way from where it normally would be.

Thanks!

Colin
