Migrants at Lake Naivasha
Greetings
Nature Kenya's Sunday Birdwatch spent a delightful day at the Kenya Wildlife Service’s Hippo Camp on the northeastern shore of Lake Naivasha on 21 October.
Migrants included:
Eurasian Marsh Harrier
Ruff
Common Greenshank
Wood Sandpiper
Lesser Black-backed Gull (immature)
Eurasian Bee-eater
Sand Martin (in a large flock of Plain Martins resting on the track)
Barn Swallow
Common House Martin
Yellow Wagtail
Northern Wheatear
Willow Warbler
(and Garganey at Manguo Ponds on the way back)
Breeding residents included
Hottentot Teal with six tiny ducklings
African Jacana with two long-legged, fuzzy chicks
(and at Manguo Ponds on the way back, a White-backed Duck with a large duckling)
