Dear Greg and Andy,
There is no doubt whatsoever that you have Karamoja Apalis, this is most
exciting. They are in acacia drepanolobium along the road to Keekerok,
where the turn-off to Naibor Camp used to be, then there are at least one
pair in the drepanolobium after the tarmac ends. I would really like the
exact co-ordinates if you have them, it is the first that I have ever
heard of not being in drepanolobium. Switching of tail side to side is a
really unusual diagnostic feature. You won't hear from me for a
fortnight as I start a special safari looking for 42 species of birds
for one person over the entire country in two weeks... promises to be
exhausting.

  Hi Brian,

See e-mail below from Andy Webb our Bushcamp manager (location half an
hour north of Ol Kiombo - mostly light acacia woodland). Let us know if
you have any suggestions.
  Regards
  Greg

  Hi Greg,

I have seen on about three occasions in the last two weeks, a pair of
interesting birds in the camp area that I cannot i.d. satisfactorily!

The only bird I can find in Stevenson and Fanshawe that looks right is
the Karamoja Apalis which, according to the distribution info, shouldn't
occur here.

Description is: Looks exactly like it should be an Apalis. Busy in
Acacia Geradii gleaning from outer branches. A pair of birds loud
calling and continuous tail lifting and wagging from side to side. Light
grey back, pale to cream breast, distictive white secondaries on the
wings and distinctive long tail with distinct white outer feathers.

Maybe you can forward this description to a bird fundi who can get it
i.d.Cheers,

  Andy
