Re: [KENYABIRDSNET] Tagged R|ppell's Vulture

Hello to All,

Thanks to Simon Thomsett we have an answer:

Mike.

Your bird was a 2 year old pale juv Ruppell's Griffon tagged on Game Ranching Athi River on 24th Aug 06.

This is an interesting record, showing a range we did not anticipate.

In addition this bird may be a hybrid between Ruppell's and the Eurasian Griffon. I do not think it is, but it look like those reported to be so.

The fading is very bad news for us. It seems that this is a problem with others in the Mara.

Many thanks to all.

Simon.

Sorry, I have no info.

I suggest you check with Dieter Oschadleus <dieter@adu.uct.ac.za> (I know some SA ringers have ringed vultures in Kenya but have never sent me their data) and Simon Thomsett <sthomsett@gmail.com>.

I would like to hear the results.

Best wishes,

Graeme

Hello,

We saw a Ruppell's Vulture today that had a yellow plastic tag.
Location was on Sosian, Laikipia. We have the number and GPS
coordinates. Does anyone know of vulture project in Laikipia?
