Subject: Long billed Pipit Kakamega Forest

Dear birders'
Today 11th Nov 2006 in Kakamega forest we (7 birders) have found the  long billed Pipit at a rocky out crop within the forest. After going through Don Turner book (Birds Of Kenya and Nothern Tanzania the ranges are way further and does not show any occurance in Kakamega forest But Birds of East Africa by Terry shows a wide Distribution to the NW-SW of Kenya.

Department of ornithology checklist neither does have this species. Could it be new to this site?

Meanwhile more migrants have arrived and we are still getting them as we had Tree pipit plus . on 7th we had 2 black stork in Lake Nakuru, 2 lesser black backed gulls that puzzled all of us 7 birders but was finally concluded to be first year. and 2 females Nothern Shovelers.

on 9th we had more than 6 hegulins coursers in Baringo and 2 spotted thicknee my first ever record in Baringo as I usually get them Amboseli.

Regards and wishing you good birding all days!!
